Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced the deployment of 400 additional troops from Houston and Fort Worth bases to the state’s southern border, specifically in the Rio Grande Valley. This decision is part of a strategy to strengthen border security and prevent the illegal entry of migrants, in a context of growing tension in the region.
Abbott, known for his strong immigration policies, explained that this action is part of his ongoing effort to address what he sees as a border crisis, which has plagued Texas for the past several years.
“Today, we have taken one more step to secure our border”, the governor said.

In his statement, Abbott stressed the importance of working closely with the US Border Patrol under the administration of Donald Trump, who retook office on January 20.
“Texas now has a partner in the White House with whom we can work to secure the Texas-Mexico border”, Abbott said.
Heavy deployment of soldiers to the Mexican border
The deployment of the additional 400 soldiers will strengthen the Texas Border Tactical Force, a unit launched in 2023 as part of Abbott’s border security plan. This force is intended to work in coordination with federal forces to enforce immigration laws and stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the country.
Governor Abbott emphasized that with President Trump’s support, progress will be made in implementing more effective anti-immigration policies.
“Finally, we have a federal government working to end this crisis. I thank President Donald Trump for his decisive leadership on the southern border and look forward to working with him and his administration to secure the border and make America safe again”, Abbott said.

The deployment of these 400 troops adds to previous efforts by the Texas government to bolster border security. Greg Abbott has been a strong advocate of increasing military and police presence on the border to prevent illegal migrant crossings, arguing that the federal government has not been effective enough in addressing the issue.
Security in Texas is a contentious issue.
Meanwhile, border security policies continue to be a contentious issue in the US, with sharp divisions between political parties. While Republicans, led by Abbott, insist that tougher measures are needed to protect national security, many Democrats and human rights organizations criticize the punitive approach, arguing that these policies do not address the underlying causes of migration and put the lives of thousands of people at risk.
With the implementation of this new phase of the border security plan, Abbott has made it clear that the issue of immigration will remain a priority during his tenure, and that collaboration with the Trump administration is key to achieving his security goals.
