Governor Greg Abbott has made Texas a leader in education, combining record investment with greater options for families to choose the best education for their children.
More resources for public education
Texas has reached a historic investment of $70.53 billion in 2023, up 45% from 2014. It also increased the per-student budget by more than 55% and allocated $93 million to support students with special needs through $1,500 scholarships.
The state ranks first in Blue Ribbon schools and top-ranked research universities, in addition to having 10 of the top 100 public high schools in the U.S.
Boosting educational freedom of choice
Abbott is working with the state Congress to create an Education Savings Account program, ensuring that every family can select the best option for their children. His plan also includes more support for charter schools, virtual education and easier in-district and out-of-district school switching.
One of the beneficiaries of these initiatives is Jeremiah Kimmel, a student with autism in Bell County. His grandmother was able to choose the best educational setting for him, ensuring him access to the tools necessary for his academic and personal success.
